Legal Requirements prior to purchasing trout.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks requires each landowner to obtain a private pond license prior to purchasing and transporting/introducing trout to any body of water in the state of Montana.
You can apply for a private pond license or update your current license through FWP’s head office in Helena by contacting their office at 406-444-2449 or visiting their website at http://fwp.mt.gov.
